Nahyoung Kim, Piano
South Korean pianist Nahyoung Kim, with astonishing tone and color along with her
exclusive musicality and technicality, is building her reputation as a soloist, chamber
musician, and collaborative pianist. Her debut in 2009 with the Gimpo Philharmonic
Orchestra with W. A. Mozart Piano Concerto No. 19 in F Major, K. 459 bookmarks the
first page of her career.
Kim started her professional studies at the Korea National University of Arts Preparatory School under the tutelage of Daejin Kim at the age of 10, then to Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, the Bachelor of Music from the Seoul National University- College of Music under the tutelage of Aviram Reichert with a full scholarship, and the Master of Music degree was conferred on her from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Benjamin Pasternack with a full scholarship and the graduate assistant fellowship. She has appeared in professional venues throughout Asia and North America including Tel-Hai Evens Hall, Gimpo Art Hall, Goyang Aram Nuri Concert Hall, Horowitz Arts Center- Monteabaro Hall, Sammo Art Hall, Seoul Arts Center- Recital Hall, Seoul National University Concert Hall, and Fazioli Concert at the Seoul National University.
Nahyoung Kim has been awarded the Clara Asherfield Award, the
Jung-Ju Oh Award, the Shilla Cultural Scholarship, the first prize in The Piano Society
of Korea
Competition, and the second prize in the 36th Eumyoun Music Competition. She has supplemented
her professional studies by participating in international music festivals including
the Tel-Hai
International Piano Festival, the SNU International Chamber Music Festival, and by
masterclasses
with Françoise Thinat, Marc-André Hamelin, Pascal Rogé, Ricard Goode, Victor Derevianko.
Nahyoung Kim is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree whilst receiving
a full
scholarship and Graduate Assistant fellowship at Stony Brook University under the
tutelage of
world-renowned concert pianist Gilbert Kalish.
