Iliana Barcenas, Viola
Iliana Barcenas is a doctoral student at Stony Brook University, where she studies with Matthew Lipman and Lawrence Dutton. She completed her Master’s degree in viola performance at the Frost School of Music, where she studied under Jodi Levitz. During her time at Frost, Iliana served as a Teaching Assistant for the STAMPS Program and was a fellow for The Henry Mancini Institute. She graduated from the University of Michigan with her Bachelor’s in viola in May 2022.
A native of Long Island, New York, Iliana is an alumna of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) and is happy to come back and work with this amazing foundation. She grew up performing throughout the state in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and regional conferences, along with local school orchestras. Her love for music, fueled by her experiences with MYO, has inspired her future goals of becoming a music educator.
Apart from practicing and teaching, Iliana enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her cuddly Maine Coon, Kamuko.
