Jane Saunders, PhD Student in Composition

Jane Saunders

Jane Saunders is a multidisciplinary artist, educator and composer residing in New York City. As a composer, she incorporates elements of classical music, noise art, neo-futuristic metal, and technology into a diverse range of projects. Jane has received a Graduate Council Fellowship to Stony Brook University for the Ph.D. in Composition studies, previously receiving the degrees of M.M. in Studio Composition from SUNY Purchase, and B.S. in Music Technology from The City University of New York’s College of Staten Island where she serves as Adjunct Lecturer in Music, teaching courses in electronic scoring techniques for film, video games, and other emerging medias. She was awarded a Staten Island Arts DCA Premier Grant with funding from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, for AE2.0, a perpetual art installation application of daily earthquake activity for the Android and iPhone platforms. Saunders earned recognition for her original film score to the eco-thriller, Unearth (2020), a horror story  about dangerous ecological consequences that arise from exploiting the environment. Her score to Unearth received critical praise and was featured during “The Future of Film is Female” exhibition at MoMA after debuting on Spotify’s Top 50 Soundtracks chart.  She is a prize-winner at the Las Vegas International Film Festival for her score for the independent short film The Letter J, her electronic media installations have appeared at the Abron’s Arts Center (NYCEMF), the New York Hall of Science (World Maker Faire) and she has toured internationally as co-creator of the avant-garde noise art project, The Greatest Fear, which won the Independent Music Awards Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal Album of the Year.
