Thomas J. McDonald, JD, MEd
Thomas McDonald is a licensed attorney in New York State, currently working at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York as the Title IX Coordinator and Equity Compliance Specialist. In his current role, Mr. McDonald is responsible for ensuring college-wide compliance with Title IX, Title VII, and other anti-discrimination laws for students and employees. Mr. McDonald has responsibility for Mercy College’s campuses in Westchester, Manhattan, and the Bronx. He conducts investigations and hearings of policy violations, and oversees employee relation matters. He also provides college-wide educational programming on preventing and responding to discrimination.
Prior to his role at Mercy College, Mr. McDonald served as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Chief Accountability Officer, and Special Assistant to the Provost at LIM College; the Assistant Vice President for Student & Campus Life, Title IX Coordinator, and ADA Compliance Officer at The New School; the Director of Student Disability Services and Title IX Investigator at Borough of Manhattan Community College; and an adjunct faculty member for the City University of New York.
Mr. McDonald has extensive experience in higher education administration, student affairs, budgeting, management, strategic planning, and accreditation, as well as expertise in legal and statutory compliance; crisis management and prevention; alternative dispute resolution; policy development; and the practical application of city, state, and federal statutes affecting colleges and universities. Mr. McDonald also has experience conducting investigations, holding due process hearings, and mediating various employee matters.
Mr. McDonald teaches Crisis Management and Prevention in Higher Education and Legal
Issues in Higher Education. He holds a BA in English and Psychology from SUNY New
Paltz; an MEd in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin;
and a JD from New York Law School. Mr. McDonald is a member of various committees
and professional organizations including the New York State Bar and the New York County
Lawyers Association, where he volunteers in a pro bono legal clinic. Born and raised
in New York City, Mr. McDonald lives in Bronxville, N.Y. with his
spouse.
