DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD RECIPIENT
Sean f. Conroy (MAPP Class of 2003)
Specialist Director Mission Team, Department of Defense, Microsoft Corporation
During March 2018, Sean Conroy joined Microsoft after many years working as a civilian for the Department of the Air Force. Except for 20 months serving as Chief of Staff for Microsoft Federal’s Department of Defense Account Unit, he has solely focused on bringing best-of-breed cloud-enabled solutions to bear against the challenges the US Government encounters each day. He concentrates on using technology to provide decision support for actions from acquisition through deployment.
Sean is also serving as Chief of Staff of the Louisiana Air National Guard. He is responsible for leading the LAANG headquarters staff as well as developing plans and publishing policies that support the field units. He directs new mission development for the LAANG and serves as principal liaison to state and federal agencies. He is a designated dual-hat general officer and serves as Reserve Component liaison to the Department of the Air Force’s studies and analysis directorate (SAF/SA).
Military career highlights include three mobilizations in support of Operations NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM, serving in the combined air operations centers for First Air Force, Tyndall AFB, and CENTCOM, Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar. In 2013, he served as anti-terrorism officer at an air base in southern Israel. In addition to the aforementioned, he mobilized in response to Hurricanes Dennis, Katrina, Isaac, Laura, and Ida, serving as Jefferson Parish liaison officer, Staff Judge Advocate, commander of the Point of Distribution mission, and Senior Military Advisor. He is a Security Forces officer and has commanded three times: the 159th Mission Support Group, the 159th Security Forces Squadron, and the 113th Security Forces Squadron.
Sean holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of New Orleans, a law degree from St. John’s University School of Law, and a Master’s degree in public policy from Stonybrook University. He is an in-residence graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) and the Air War College.
He is a lifetime member of the National Guard Association and the Air Force Association and a member of the New York, Louisiana, and Massachusetts Bars. He volunteers extensively with two Scout BSA Troops and a Cub Scout Pack serving in various adult leadership positions. He is married to Rebekah Blake Conroy, MD, a pediatrician at Children’s National Medical Center. They have four children and reside in Arlington, VA.
