Suffolk County Transit Bus
Suffolk County Transit provides connection to local off-campus destinations. The fare for students is $1.25 one -way on weekdays. Students can use the routes below free of charge on weekends with a valid SBU ID Card.

Long Island Railroad (LIRR)
The Long Island Railroad's (LIRR) Port Jefferson line goes from Penn Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus; bus service to central campus is provided. Trains to and from Penn Station generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Hicksville is also a transfer point on some lines. You can download MTA eTix, the mobile ticketing app to purchase and use LIRR tickets directly on your smartphone. You can also purchase your LIRR ticket from one of the ticket machines at the train station.
Taxis
You can use mobile apps such as Uber and Lyft to call a taxi.
Car Rental
Driver must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license and major credit card in the name of driver.
