Airport Transportation
Stony Brook is about 60 miles (90km) from New York City. Students are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from campus. Below are some transportation options from nearby international airports and New York City.

Flight
There are three international airports near Stony Brook: John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), Newark Airport (EWR), and LaGuardia Airport (LGA). It is easiest to get to campus from JFK.
If you are participating in the Global Academic Program or Intensive English Program, you may enter the U.S. with your F-1 Visa and I-20 up to (but no earlier than) 30 days before the start date indicated on your I-20. See housing check-in dates to plan your arrival.
FROM JOHN F. KENNEDY AIRPORT (JFK)
From JFK airport, take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station to access the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). The $8.25 air train trip to Jamaica Station lasts approximately 5-8 minutes. From Jamaica Station, take the LIRR (Port Jefferson line, eastbound) to the Stony Brook Station, about a 2 hour ride.
Purchase your LIRR ticket from one of the ticket machines or on the MTA eTix app before boarding the train. You may purchase your ticket on the train (cash only) for an additional fee. The ticket machines accept U.S. currency in small denominations, credit and debit cards.
FROM NEWARK AIRPORT (EWR)
Students arriving from Newark Liberty International Airport will need to take New Jersey Transit to New York City's Penn Station. From Penn Station take the LIRR train to Stony Brook University.
