About Us
Our Vision
To achieve national prominence in the higher education profession in promoting the
leadership development and career advancement of historically underrepresented professionals
in Student Affairs.
Our Mission
The Diversity Leadership Development Initiative (DLDI) strives to cultivate an affirming
and rich professional development environment for historically underrepresented Student
Affairs professionals. DLDI provides a space where its participants can strengthen their professional competencies
and leadership skills, benefit from professional mentoring, engage in DEI-related
discussions, and establish meaningful relationships.
Our Objectives
In conjunction with the University Diversity Plan (Sec. IV.I), DLDI is designed to accomplish this mission through the following focus
areas (themes):
• Implement a comprehensive and strategic plan for career mobility through pipeline and mentoring initiatives.
• Create professional development and competency building strategies regarding diversity and inclusion.
• Improve staff morale and create a more supportive community through inclusive social, cultural, and professional programs and initiatives.
Our Values
- Each professional staff member of the Division of Student Affairs contributes to the diversity at Stony Brook University and is valued, desired, and integral to our success as an institution of higher education.
- The Division of Student Affairs is committed to creating a just, open, and supportive workplace climate where all professions -- including those who self-identify as members of underrepresented groups -- have equal access, feel welcome, and have a strong sense of belonging.
- Professional competency skill-building, professional mentoring, and community support are essential to achieving success as a Student Affairs leader and educator.
- It is necessary to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusive leadership practices into the fabric of our daily work.
