Stony Brook University's 30-hour non-credit certificate program, Navigating the Clean Energy Transition, consists of 10 modules led by Stony Brook University faculty, as well as private and public industry leaders, including Community Offshore Wind, Haugland Group LLC, NYPA, NYSDPS, Oceantic, Ørsted, and Vineyard Offshore.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for anyone who wants to develop a better understanding of the clean energy industry including:

Environmental scientists
Government representatives
And others within the clean energy supply chain

If you are selected to participate and successfully complete the program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and an invitation to a boat trip to view a turbine system.

Course Outline

Dive into the current landscape of policy and incentives, focusing on recent challenges and the impact of the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA). You will learn how these elements are shaping the approach to offshore wind.
Explore the challenges of sustainable energy adoption while focusing on offshore wind. Developers share insights from their perspective. Understand the barriers shaping consumption behaviors and the strategies for overcoming them.
Learn about the role of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission used in an offshore wind farm to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) for transport to shore. You will also understand the essentials of power converters & power systems and their impact on modern energy solutions.
Join industry experts as they delve into transmission planning on and offshore. Explore the dynamic history of New York State's electric grid, uncovering key themes — policy, economics, technology, and consumer behavior.
Explore the utility's perspective on integrating offshore wind into the electric grid and wholesale markets. You will come away with a comprehensive understanding of strategies for funding projects and essential transmission costs
In this module, you will discover innovative strategies being implemented to develop a sustainable supply chain for offshore windd and learn about the manufacturing implications and opportunities.
This module provides an overview of coastal meteorology features relevant to offshore wind resources. You will explore the physical processes, structures, and operational forecasting of weather phenomena relevant to offshore wind.
This module will explore policy— driven advancements, diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, and community outreach. You will discuss how to engage a thriving hiring ecosystem for sustainable growth.
This module explores the ocean implications of offshore wind projects, drawing on research reports from existing wind farms. It offers a closer look at how these projects are approached and what is being done to ensure the health and biodiversity of our oceans.
