Graduate English Society (GES)
Welcome to the home page for the Graduate English Society. The purpose of the Graduate
English Society (GES) is to promote the academic and professional development of all
graduate students in the English Department, facilitate participation and input to
departmental committees, foster positive mentor/mentee relationships among faculty
and graduate students, and contribute to community-building goals within the department.
The GES pursues these goals by sponsoring workshops, panels, a graduate student conference, and a mentoring program. The GES also promotes fellowship among graduate students, alumni members, and faculty through social events. Officers in the GSO are eligible graduate students in the MA, MAT and PhD programs in the English Department at Stony Brook. All graduate students have the opportunity to participate by taking on an officer post or simply attending the GES monthly meetings and taking part in GES-sponsored events, namely our annual graduate conference.
The Graduate English Society oversees the following budgets: the GSO Departmental allocation ($1,000 per academic year); the GSO Club Allocation ($500 per academic year); and the SBU English GradCon budget.
