Tenure-Track Biomedical Engineering Assistant or Associate Professor
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) of Stony Brook University (https://www.stonybrook.edu/bme/) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level. BME faculty work closely with several excellent departments within Stony Brook University, including Chemistry, Neurobiology and Behavior, Psychology, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Further, BME has strong ties with Stony Brook Medicine, the largest academic medical center in Suffolk County, NY, home to 1.8 million people. Collaboration with Stony Brook Medicine provides access to numerous clinical populations and clinicians across many specialties. Further fostering this collaboration, the position is funded through the Renaissance School of Medicine.
Particular strengths of our institution include 1) all areas of high-resolution animal imaging and optical recording, 2) human imaging, such as MRI and PET, and 3) analysis of large data sets in collaboration with a top-ranked Computer Science Department and the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
Preference will be given to individuals developing state-of-the-art imaging studies. Successful applicants will demonstrate expertise within a research area (e.g., cognition, ischemia, addiction, AD & PD, cellular and molecular mechanisms, biomarkers) and/or a particular imaging modality (e.g., PET, NIRS, Multiphoton Microscopy, Photoacoustic, high-resolution EM/optical/ultrasound). Qualifications include a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with relevant research training and a record of excellence in research, including a strong track record of obtaining external funding from NIH and other institutions. The chosen candidate will be expected to pursue an independent, externally funded research program.
Externally funded BME faculty teach one course per semester to Stony Brook undergraduates, an ethnically diverse population, two-thirds of whom are students of color. The successful candidate will further interact with these students through office hours, BME events, and student-run organizations.
