M.A. Linguistics Program Requirements
The M.A. LIN program takes a minimum of 30 credits to complete (typically 3 or 4 semesters), and has the following components:
- 4 core courses (LIN 521, LIN 523, LIN 621, LIN 623 - Syntax I and II; Phonology I and II) that teach students the basics of theoretical linguistics
 - 6 elective courses (18 credits) from linguistics or related areas* (such as computer science, psychology, philosophy, ...)
 - Completion of one substantial research paper in linguistics, which will be read by a committee of two faculty members
 
*The student’s choice of electives (which may include courses in other departments) must be approved by the MA program director
