Apply to the M.A. Linguistics Program

APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 15 for international students
                                                      June 1 for domestic students

(Please be sure to choose the correct Masters program The Linguistics Department offers

MA TESOL Program and the MA in Linguistics Program.)

APPLY:  SLATE Graduate Admissions

For admission to the M.A. Linguistics program, the followings are required: 

Bachelor's degree and official transcripts

A bachelor's degree is required. Students must present evidence that such a degree will be awarded by the time they begin graduate work.

Requirements for submitting Official School Transcripts:

Applicants are to submit official transcripts from the college/institutions where their degree was conferred. The Graduate School admissions GPA requirement will be a 3.0 cumulative GPA from the institution/college where the degree was conferred. All official transcripts are required by the Graduate School Admissions with degree conferral.

Cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (or its foreign equivalent) on a four-point scale. If you have attended graduate school and obtained a master’s degree, and the GPA is over 3.0, then the GPA of the undergraduate school can be below 3.0 for regular admission.

Three (3) letters of recommendation

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
Those applying are not required to submit a GRE score. 

Personal Statement

Curriculum Vitae or Resume

Writing samples
Generally, a paper written for a course you have taken.

Foreign language proficiency
Equivalent to two years of college work in a language other than English with a grade of C or better.

TOEFL or IELTS Score
Non-native speakers of English must have obtained a minimum total score of 90 on iBT TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS.

Acceptance
Students must be accepted by both the Department of Linguistics and the Graduate School.
