January 19, 2022

To: all students

Dear Seawolves,

Welcome to the Spring 2022 semester!  I hope you were able to rest and relax during the winter break. If you are new to Stony Brook, welcome to our campus community. Whether you are taking all in-person classes, all online classes, or a mix of both, we are committed to keeping you connected to our Seawolf community.

Our faculty and staff are here to support you and your success. Please take a few minutes to read the information below so that you are aware of our community expectations and the many resources we have available to help you achieve your goals.

RESPECT AND CARE

In our community, we respect and care foreach other. We come to Stony Brook with widely different backgrounds, talents, and interests, so it is important that we respect each other’s views and opinions. At Stony Brook, we value free exchange of ideas, inclusion, and diversity, and we uphold our commitment to maintaining the dignity and the fair treatment of all members of our community.

Do Your Part to Stop the Spread of COVID

I am counting on you to do your part to keep our community safe and healthy. Always follow these safety measures -- and politely speak to your friends and peers if you see them not following these expectations:

  • Get a COVID test3 days prior to coming to campus for the start of the spring semester. You must have a negative test result and keep a copy on your phone if you are asked to show the negative result to Student Affairs staff. If you have tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, do not get tested. Instead, upload your positive test result to the Wolfie Health Portal so that we can exempt you from on-campus testing for 90 days.
  • Get your required COVID booster as soon as you are eligible and upload proof to the Wolfie Health Portal.
  • Regardless of your vaccination status, wear your face mask/covering that covers your nose and mouth in all indoor public spaces, including classrooms, dining halls (unless actively eating or drinking), libraries, residence hall lounges, buses, and public areas, etc.
  • During the spring semester, get tested for COVID based on thistesting schedule.
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer whenever soap and water are not available.

As detailed in the Code of Student Responsibility, violations that adversely affect the safety of the University will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.

In addition, please visit our informative and continuously updated FAQs that will help answer questions about vaccines, health and safety, campus life and others.

Marijuana Policy

State University of New York campuses are bound by the federal requirements under the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. This prohibition covers all SUNY property in public as well as campus residence halls, University apartments, and offices, University-owned and leased buildings, housing, parking lots, and all SUNY events.
