Subject: Welcome to Spring'22! What You Need to Do Before Coming to Campus
Dear Seawolves,
We look forward to your arrival to campus for the first day of spring classes on Monday, January 24! If you will be living on campus, taking at least one in-person class, or using any in-person campus services or facilities this spring, please read the January 1 message if you have not already done so.
TOP 3 THINGS TO KNOW AND DO
- Get a COVID PCR, rapid antigen, or home test - and a negative result - within 3 days prior to your arrival. If you’ve tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, DO NOT get a test.
- Get a COVID booster as soon as you’re eligible and submit proof to the Wolfie Health Portal.
- Plan ahead in the eventuality you test positive for COVID and need to isolate. If you live on campus and reside within a 50-mile radius of campus, you need to isolate at home or another off-campus location.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We have prepared these andother FAQs to help you get ready:
When do I need to get a COVID test if I am living on campus?
Unless you have tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days, you must take a
COVID test - and have a negative result - within 3 days prior to the date you move-in.
For example, if you are moving into your residence hall on Sunday, January 23, please
take a test between Thursday, January 20 - Saturday, January 22. DO NOT come to campus
if you have a positive test result or have COVID symptoms.
When do I need to get a COVID test if I am commuting to campus?
Unless you have tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days, you must take a
COVID test - and have a negative result - within 3 days prior to the date of your
first day on campus. For example, if your first day on campus will be the first day
of class, Monday, January 24, please take a test between Friday, January 21-Sunday,
January 23. DO NOT come to campus if you have a positive test result or have COVID
symptoms.
Should I get a COVID test if I was recently sick with COVID?
If you have tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days, DO NOT get tested. Upload your COVID test result indicating the date of your positive test to the Wolfie Health Portal. This will exempt you from participating in the on-campus surveillance testing for
a 90-day period from the date of your positive test. If you did a home test, upload
a picture of the positive test result and note the date of the positive result and
your Stony Brook ID in the photo. If you have not completed your 5-day isolation period
or still have symptoms, do not return to campus.
When do I need to get a COVID booster vaccine?
You are eligible (and required) to get your booster and submit proof of the vaccine booster to the Wolfie Health Portaldepending on when you received your second dose of a two-part vaccine or your single dose vaccine. Visit these FAQs for more details.
How long should I wait to get a COVID booster if I recently had COVID?
You are eligible to receive your COVID vaccine booster once you complete a 5-day isolation period and your symptoms have improved, including being fever-free for 24 hours. Please review this CDC guidance. If you were treated with monoclonal antibody therapy, submit a 90-day medical extension request to obtain a COVID booster. Visit theImmunizations website for instructions on how to submit a request for a medical extension.
What if I test positive for COVID and need to quarantine or isolate?
If you’re a resident student and your home address is within 50 miles of Stony Brook, you are required to isolate and quarantine at home. If this applies to you, have a plan ready if you test positive and must isolate, or if you have not yet received a booster and are exposed to someone with COVID and must quarantine. If you test positive for COVID, you cannot take public transportation, so you need to make a plan for housing and transportation NOW should you test positive later. Given the latest guidancefrom the CDC, you will need to isolate yourself for 5 days (or longer, until you have no symptoms). After this period, if you have no symptoms, you can return to the campus and in-person classes.
If your home address is beyond a 50-mile radius of campus, depending on your living situation and symptoms, you may be instructed to either isolate in your room or isolate in a designated campus residence hall for the duration of time required by New York State’s health department.
If you’re living off-campus, establish a plan to isolate off-campus should you test positive for COVID. Note
that COVID-positive individuals cannot take public transportation. Given the latest guidancefrom the CDC, you will need to isolate yourself for 5 days (or longer, until you have
no symptoms). After this period, if you have no symptoms, you can return to the campus
and in-person classes.
