Subject: Action Required - What You Must Do Before Moving Into Your Residential Community
Dear Seawolves,
We hope you are enjoying your summer and are looking forward to the start of the Fall 2022 semester. More information about move-in dates, times, and locations will be shared by Campus Residences by August 1.
In preparation for move-in, please carefully read the following information:
Vaccine Requirements:
Per New York State policy, all students enrolled in at least one in-person class, visiting or working on campus, or living on campus are required to complete an initial COVID vaccination series as well as submit proof of MMR vaccination and complete a Meningitis Response Form.
For more details and information on how to upload your documentation to the Wolfie Health Portal, visit stonybrook.edu/immunizations.
Further, we strongly recommend that you obtain a COVID booster, once you become eligible, and upload it to the Wolfie Health Portal. You’re eligible when:
- It’s been at least 5 months after completing your primary series (two doses) of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.
- It’s been at least 2 months after your Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine.
If you were vaccinated outside of the United States, other COVID vaccine and booster recommendations apply to you. Visit the CDC website for more information.
To check when you’re eligible to receive the booster, use this Booster Eligibility Calculator: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/studentaffairs/shs/booster_calculator.php
After reviewing this information, if you have any additional questions regarding vaccine requirements, please email vaccinations@stonybrook.edu and include your name and Stony Brook ID.
COVID Testing Prior to Move-in:
Unless you have tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days, you must take a COVID PCR or antigen test – and have a negative result -- within 3 days prior to the date you move in. For example, if you are moving into your residence hall on Monday, August 15, please take a test between Friday, August 12 and Sunday, August 14. DO NOT come to campus if you do not have the results of your test, have a positive test result, or have COVID symptoms.
At-home tests are acceptable, but please take a photo of your negative test result alongside a picture ID and include the date you took the test in the photo to show to Student Health Services or Campus Residences staff. If you are choosing to take a home test, we encourage you to take it the day before you arrive on campus.
If you tested positive for COVID within the last 90 days prior to your move-in date, you may still test positive and are not required to demonstrate a negative test at this time. Please show proof of prior positive status by either a medical provider's note or completing this Attestation Form. This form includes your isolation start and end date, as required by the New York State Department of Health.
COVID Surveillance Testing During the Fall Semester:
Unvaccinated Students
Unvaccinated students with approved exemptions are required to participate in PCR surveillance testing once a week during the fall semester. More details will be shared with you in August on how to participate in this required testing. You will use your health insurance when testing on campus. Please note that you may be responsible for any additional costs associated with this testing that are not covered by your insurance.
Vaccinated Students
Vaccinated students are not required to participate in surveillance testing. This
is subject to change based upon COVID infection rates.
For more information about testing, please visit the Student Health Services website:
stonybrook.edu/shs.
If You Don’t Feel Well and/or Test Positive for COVID During the Semester:
If you are not feeling well and would like to test for COVID or any other virus, and be examined by a health practitioner, contact Student Health Services at (631) 632-6740 for an appointment.
If at any time during the semester you test positive for COVID, call the COVID Response Team at (631) 632-6176 (on campus 2-6176) and leave a message with your name, SBU ID, a phone number to return your call, the date of your positive test result, and symptoms you are experiencing. The COVID Response Team will return your message within 24 hours of receipt.
If you test positive for COVID, with or without symptoms, you will need to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and cannot attend in-person classes or activities. You can continue to participate in online classes as long as you feel well enough to do so. Leaving campus to isolate at home is strongly encouraged, so make plans ahead of time to isolate at home, including transportation as you cannot take public transportation while sick with COVID.
If you cannot leave campus, you will isolate yourself in your own room at your residence hall or apartment following these guidelines:
- Stay in your residence room for your isolation period. You should only leave your room to use the bathroom, pick up food, dispose of trash, or for a fire alarm or medical emergency.
- If you have a roommate and/or suitemates, inform them of your status and plans for isolation. Include them when you report your close contacts to the COVID Response Team.
- Everyone should wear a mask at all times when in the same room with you. Once you have finished isolation after 5 days, continue to wear a mask at all times for 5 additional days.
- Limit time in shared bathrooms and wash your hands after use.
- Do not spend time in the hallway, lounge, kitchen, common living room, or laundry room.
- Do not share personal household items like cups, towels, and utensils.
