The Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center empowers student-athletes to achieve their fullest academic and personal potential by fostering a culture grounded in integrity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. The Center is seeking graduate students to serve as Academic Success Coaches (ASCs) and work with a small cohort of Division I student-athletes.
The ASC will be exposed to all facets of the job, including but not limited to meeting weekly with at-risk student-athletes to monitor academic progress, managing the study hall, working with NCAA Progress Towards Degree rules, connecting student-athletes to campus resources, helping them understand University processes/procedures, and assisting with advising student-athletes regarding course registration. Each Academic Success Coach will collaborate with one of our full-time advisors to gain experience across various sport programs at Stony Brook and gain insight into advising a cohort on a micro scale. Academic Success Coaches will have group meetings with the academic advisor to process their learning and share experiences. The Seawolves Pantry offers direct application of our commitment to community engagement, providing students, staff, and faculty with resources to address food and basic needs insecurity. The Center is seeking graduate students to serve as Graduate Coordinators and support the overall operations of the food pantry by supervising interns and volunteers, and overseeing programs, resources, and initiatives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supporting and supervising volunteers during the Pantry’s regular business hours, including occasionally helping to fulfill visitors’ orders and enforce Pantry regulations.
- Overseeing volunteer programs, including reviewing applications, facilitating orientation sessions, and organizing volunteer schedules, for both semesterly volunteer cohorts and individual one-time volunteers.
- Managing use of our PantrySoft (PS) system for accurate inventory counts and tracking.
- Collecting and analyzing data regarding inventory usage, donations, user statistics, finances and budget, and guest feedback.
- Pulling high risk PantrySoft reports weekly and connecting guests with additional internal and external resources when needed.
- Coordinating SNAP referrals and hosting one-on-one consultations for SNAP application assistance, with knowledge of federal SNAP policies and compassion for at-risk individuals.
- Participating in the Seawolves Pantry operations strategic planning process and weekly supervision meetings.
- Collaborating across the division or university-wide units to support food security and basic needs initiatives.

- Identifying and submitting possible external funding opportunities and grant proposals to support ongoing Pantry programs.
- Research best practices implemented at other institutions to address food insecurity.
- Coordinating weekly restock purchases.
- Accepting and logging donations into our PantrySoft (PS) system.
- Proudly and appropriately representing the Seawolves Pantry when required.

Graduate Practicums/Field Education, and Internships
at Stony Brook University
Graduate practicums/field education are integral to the graduate education experience. Students who complete practicums/field
education in the Division of Student Affairs will have the opportunity to gain knowledge,
professional skills, and a broad understanding of the Higher Education profession.
Special note: Tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement benefits are not
included as part of graduate internship/field education and practicum positions.
HEA Practicum. Students enrolled in the Higher Education Administration (HEA) Program who do not have one year of professional work experience in higher education or are
not currently employed in higher education, are required to complete a 150-hour (10
hours per week for 15 weeks) practicum (unpaid internship) with an approved supervisor
working in the higher education field or student affairs department to gain practical
experience. In addition to their field hours, students will also complete a 14-week
online course, HEA 586 - Practicum in Higher Education, to build a strong theory-to-practice
connection and to reflect on and discuss the practicum experience. Students will
earn 3 credits and can complete their internship in the Fall or Spring semester.
The 3 credits earned will count as one of the six required electives for the program.
This practicum opportunity is only for students enrolled in the Master of Arts program.
Students in the Advanced Graduate Certificate program are not eligible to earn credit
for a practicum experience. Approval from the Department of Higher Education Administration
is required.
Graduate internships and field education offer students the opportunity to explore potential career paths, build their resumes, and gain essential industry experience that can lead to full-time employment. Internships can be for academic credit/no credit, paid or unpaid, and occur during the Fall/Spring semester or during the winter/summer breaks. Field Education opportunities are required, for academic credit, and coordinated through the Master of Social Work graduate program in the School of Social Welfare. Internships and Field Education can be on-site, hybrid, or remote. Internships and field education for academic credit require approval from an academic department.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, this graduate student internship position supports the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that further build community and strengthen working relationships between student and professional and graduate staff members of the Division of Student Affairs. The Intern assists with the Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) Undergraduate Fellowship Program through program development, outreach, and recruitment. The Intern assists with promoting graduate student employment, practicum, and internship opportunities offered by the Division of Student Affairs. The Intern also supports the Division of Student Affairs Community Enhancement Collective (DoSA CEC) to promote staff engagement. Some work is required with web-based communication. Additional programming support in other Student Affairs areas may be assigned.
The selected Intern may be considered for this position in Fall 2026 in fulfillment of HEA 587: Advanced Practicum in Higher Education.

Appointments will consist of healthcare career coaching, mock interviews, resume reviews, and cover letters, which will be offered in-person and virtually.
