Completing Degree Requirements
Students should apply for graduation through the Office of the Registrar via SOLAR form. More information on guidelines and deadlines can be found on their website (opens in a new window).
If you have any questions or concerns about meeting your graduation requirements, please meet with a PSY advisor by making an appointment on Navigate, your other major advisor (if applicable), and your general advisor.

Psychology Department Convocation
General Information
Stony Brook University will hold its Annual Commencement on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11 AM in LaValle Stadium at the University Sports Complex.
A separate Convocation Ceremony for Psychology BA & Psychology BS Majors is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20th at 12:00 PM in the Stony Brook Arena, Sports Complex. Graduates will assemble for the Psychology Department Convocation Ceremony at 11:00am in Pritchard Gym. Your four (4) family and friends with tickets will proceed to the Stony Brook Arena. Each candidate will be individually recognized at the Psychology Department Convocation.
Please note that the Psychology Department Convocation Ceremony is a ticketed event. Students who are registered on SOLAR and have indicated their attendance via the department attendance form (see below) will be eligible to receive four tickets each.
Additional details about tickets are available here. For guests without tickets, an alternate viewing location will be provided in the Union Auditorium (location TBD). A livestream will also be available; more information can be found on the Commencement website here.
December 2025, January 2026, May 2026, August 2026, and December 2026 graduation candidates are eligible to attend the Spring 2026 Department Ceremony if they applied for graduation and indicated on SOLAR that they plan to attend the May 2026 PSY Department Commencement. If you are unsure whether you selected this option in SOLAR, please email ug_graduation_west_campus@stonybrook.edu
Please remember that attending commencement or convocation is not the same as having your degree conferred. Your degree is officially conferred only after all graduation requirements have been met and final grades have been posted to your record.
Attendance Form (FOR TICKETS)
To participate in the Psychology Convocation Ceremony, all students must complete the Psychology Department Convocation Attendance Form in addition to the Graduation Application form on SOLAR.

Important Instructions for the Psychology Department Commencement Ceremony:

- Please arrive in full regalia (red cap, gown & academic hood) at 11:00am and go directly
to the Pritchard Gym.
- Regalia information can be found on the commencement website linked here (opens in a new window).
- Your four (4) ticketed family members or guests should proceed to the Stony Brook Arena.
- Upon entering the Pritchard Gym, you will be directed to the sign-in tables. There, you will receive a card (randomly
labeled Group #1 or Group #2) on which you will write your name phonetically.
- You may review phonetic spelling here . Keep this card with you and hand it to the podium speaker when you approach the stage so your name can be announced correctly.
- There will be two (2) lines in the Gym - one for Group #1 and one for Group #2. Please line up according to the group number on your card.
- Psychology department staff will be present in the gym to guide you into the auditorium.
- Please arrive on time. You will need to walk down several flights of stairs, so keep this in mind when selecting footwear.
- Please arrive in full regalia (red cap, gown & academic hood) at 11:00am and go directly
to the Pritchard Gym.
