For the 2024-2025 academic year, Stony Brook University is implementing a tiered parking permit model for students. Commuter parking permits will now have three tiers (Commuter Core, Commuter Perimeter and Commuter Satellite). There will also be two tiered residential parking permits (Perimeter and Satellite) for students. These changes will support the necessary work for our surface lots, including pothole repair, filling cracks, sealant and resurfacing, etc.
Beginning Fall 2024:
- There will be a pay and no-pay option for residential parking permits. Residential Perimeter (see plans below) will be available for $90/semester (fall/spring) and $60/semester (summer).
- Commuter permit tiers will adjust to:
- Commuter Core: $135/semester (fall/spring) and $90/semester (summer)
- Commuter Perimeter: $90/semester (fall/spring) and $60/semester (summer)
- Commuter Satellite: No charge
A limited number of permits will be available for free or at a discounted rate for students with financial need. These will be on a first-come, first-served basis. (Applications are closed for Fall 2024.) Details on student eligibility are still under review.
GENERAL INFORMATION
- Enforcement hours will remain the same for the Fall 2024 semester. Metered spaces are enforced 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Monday-Friday) and West Campus lots are enforced 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday-Friday).
- The metered spaces in Lot 5 will remain at a $5/day flat rate.
- MAPS will be implementing a new parking management system. This system will utilize virtual permits instead of physical hang tags. More information on this will be sent as implementation is finalized.
