Extent, Scope, and Content Note The collection is comprised of approximately seven cubic ft. of Michael Edwards' papers dating between 1930 and 1962. A musician, composer and arranger,
and music editor for Mills Music, Inc., his papers include correspondence with musicians
and publishers; scores and instrumental, band, orchestral and choral arrangements;
music, lesson and songbooks; music catalogs; personal and historical scrapbooks; and
autographed sheet music and photos. Correspondents include Leroy Anderson, Robert
Burns, Tommy Dorsey, Richard Franko Goldman, and Leonard B. Smith.

Historical Note Michael Edwards [29 September 1893-26 September 1962] was a musician, composer, arranger,
and music editor for Mills Music, Inc. He was born Michael E. Slowitzky in Hazelton,
Pennsylvania to Polish immigrants Louisa [Boczkowski] and Adam Slowitzky. His song
titled "Once In A While," written with Bud Green, held the number one position for
seven weeks in 1937. This song was later re-recorded by Louis Armstrong, Doris Day,
and The Chimes. A veteran of World War I, he is buried at Long Island National Cemetery.
