Library
The Center for Italian Studies boats a multi-thousand volume library. Ranging from Italian language textbooks to Italian American cultural studies, our library offers thousands of volumes in a myriad of subjects. Our history volumes range from antiquity to the Renaissance to the present day, similar to our books on travel literature and our literary criticisms. Furthermore, our specialized collection of Italian American cultural studies includes a number of conference proceedings and journals.
History and Politics
Our historical volumes encompass a wide range of history, from medieval times to the early modern era, all the way to World War 2 and modern politics.
Humanism
Our volumes on early Renaissance humanism particularly emphasize Petrarch and Boccaccio, and those on Early Modern literature include publications from Harvard University's Center for Italian Renaissance Studies I Tatti. Additionally, we have a myriad of texts of Giosuè Carducci.
Art & Food
Our collection of art (criticism & history) and food culture books span works from Credito Italiano, Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura, Gruppo Sanpaolo, and Harvard University Press.
Parati Migration Library
Dr. Graziella Parati is the Paul D. Paganucci Professor Emeritus of Italian Literature and Language at Dartmouth College and a professor in the Comparative Literature and Women’s and Gender Studies Programs. In 2023, she generously donated a vast collection of books detailing migration to and from Italy. This large collection of over 250 books ranges from historic migrations from Italy to the U.S. northeast in the mid-20th century to modern migration to Italy from northern Africa and the Middle East. Thanks to the efforts of SBU student Maria Grazia Carbone, this collection is viewable on Library Thing. All items in this Library are searchable in this digital catalogue, free of charge!
