Long Island Master Teacher Program
The New York State Master Teacher Program celebrates the work of the highest-performing STEM teachers by establishing an expert community dedicated to developing expertise in the areas of content, pedagogy, and students’ families and communities.
Stony Brook University is home to the Long Island Region of Master Teachers (there are nine regions throughout the state). The program is coordinated by Linda Padwa and Caren Gough (both faculty in the Institute for STEM Education) with assistance from Joseph Filippone and Miriam Flynn. There are currently 93 Master Teachers in the Long Island region representing 41 school districts. Click here to meet the Long Island Master Teachers.
The Master Teachers meet several times a year as a group to plan upcoming activities. In addition, they meet in content-based groups to discuss issues pertaining to their discipline. The calendar of events can be seen here.
