OUR INCLUSIVE EXCELLENCE MISSION

The Stony Brook University (SBU) Program in Writing and Rhetoric (PWR) seeks to promote inclusive excellence in our teaching, research, and service as a community of educators who support and involve our students so they can thrive as individuals and contribute to greater social good. As part of a discipline in which the teaching and scholarship about academic and professional communication seek to address social and linguistic injustice, our curricula and pedagogies advance the university’s inclusive excellence goals by fostering critical awareness about politics and (global) citizenship. We make deliberate efforts to counter biases (including implicit ones) and strive to establish a culture of accountability and assessment around inclusion initiatives and policies.
