Teacher Education: English
In cooperation with the Distributed Teacher and Leader Education Program (D-TALE) in the School of Professional Development, the Stony Brook University English Department offers two degree programs that lead to NYS Adolescence Education certification to teach English in grades 7-12: the BA in English Teacher Education Program and the MAT in English.
Both programs include innovative courses with well-published, highly-regarded faculty members with substantial secondary teaching experience in New York State schools.
Our alumni have gone on to successful teaching careers on Long Island, New York City, upstate New York, and in states throughout the US, including California, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas. A small, but high-caliber program, the Stony Brook English Teacher Education Program has a highly-competitive admissions process and high standards for graduation.
We offer one-on-one mentoring and advisement throughout the program for all students willing to put in the effort required to succeed in what is possibly the world’s most important work: helping young people develop the skills and knowledge to be literate, critically-thoughtful citizens.
