Application Information
Thank you for your interest in the CIE SBU Scholars program! This program provides an opportunity for PhD students to build community on campus, learn professional development skills, and apply for additional funding support.
We are looking for CIE SBU Scholars who have a deep investment in building campus communities and who are excited to join the CIE family. The CIE's mission is to support scholars financially, academically, and socially while promoting an environment that centers inclusion at the highest levels of research and scholarship. How to apply?
To apply, students should submit the CIE SBU Scholars online application form.
The application asks for the following information:
- Applicant contact information
- A list of up to four activities relevant to the mission of the CIE.
- A response to the following short answer prompt: “Why are you interested in joining the Center for Inclusive Education community through the CIE SBU Scholars Program? How do you connect to the mission of the Center for Inclusive Education? (300 words or less)."
- Applicant CV or resume
Successful applicants will provide deeply considered answers with specific examples that show a connection to the CIE's mission as well as a demonstrated investment in activities related to community building and/or the CIE's mission.
There is no cap on the number of acceptances into the CIE SBU Scholars program.
Who is eligible?
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Candidates must be full-time doctoral students in good academic standing at Stony Brook University. Domestic and international students are eligible, and MSTP students are also eligible.
- Candidates must not have received previous funding from the CIE. (The only exceptions are Ferguson Merit Award recipients and SREB Scholarship recipients.)
Supplementary funding information
Students accepted into the CIE SBU Scholars program can apply for funding awards to support conference travel, research/professional development activities, or emergency support.
The CIE prioritizes funding applications from CIE SBU Scholars who have a consistent record of engaging with the CIE, who have demonstrated their commitment to contributing to the CIE's mission through leadership or community-building activities during their time as a graduate student, and who identify with specific categories including: low-income background, first-generation college students, have overcome disadvantages to accessing higher education, etc.
