The March 15 issue of Newsday reports that recent alumna Erica Ravin, B.S. 2008.
now a SBU Dental student, became engaged to MBA student Deepjot Anand on stage at
the Marquis Theater after a preview performance of a new Twyla Tharp musical. Congratulations,
Erica!
03/05/2010 Sarbajit Banerjee (Ph.D. 2004, Wong)
Sarbajit Banerjee, is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at SUNY Buffalo. He received
a NSF Career Award in 2009, and has recently been named by the ACS as the 2010 recipient
of the ExxonMobil Solid State Chemistry Faculty Fellowship.
02/26/2010 Peter Rossky (Post-Doc, Friedman)
Peter Rossky, the Welch-Regents Chair in Chemistry and Professor of Chemical Engineering
at University of Texas-Austin, who was a post-doc with Harold Friedman in the late
1970s before going to Austin, is the recipient of the ACS' 2010 Hildebrand Award in
the Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry of Liquids, sponsored by Exxon-Mobil. He
also won the 2009 Theoretical Chemistry Award.
01/11/2010 David R. Walt (Ph.D. 1979, F. Johnson)
David R. Walt, Ph.D. 1979 (F. Johnson) has been named the recipient of the ACS Award
for Creative Invention, sponsored by ACS Corporation Associates, for his invention
of devices using optical fibers for chemical sensing. A complete writeup appears in
the January 11 Chemical and Engineering News, pp 44-5. Dr. Walt is a member of the
National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of both the American Institute for Medical
and Biological Engineering and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
