Demonstrating Initiative Grant

The SBU community can enhance synergy within and between organizational systems to support a collaborative educational, clinical and work environment, facilitated by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives (DI3).
The DI3 funds provide opportunities for colleges, academic departments and administrative units to engage in initiatives that enhance the quality of programs and activities through clearly defined outcomes. These initiatives aim to deliver tangible benefits to students and faculty, support departmental and unit goals, and foster a more collaborative campus community. Each funding category requires evidence of support from the relevant unit or administrators.
Demonstrating Initiative Funds Overview
For over 10 years, Stony Brook University has provided central support for the recruitment,
retention and advancement of students, faculty and staff. Originally focused on meeting
federal, state, and local compliance regulations, the initiative has evolved to prioritize
increasing social and economic mobility, promoting community discourse, and enhancing
outreach and engagement.
Since 2014, the DI3 funds have supported colleges, academic and administrative units, individuals and groups to enhance the overall learning, living and working environment at SBU. DI3 invites proposals that aim to advance the following priorities:
- Recruit, educate, train and hire exemplary students, faculty and staff
- Support the retention, safety and well-being of everyone at SBU
- Enhance the overall living, learning and working experience for members of the SBU community
- Strengthen outreach, engagement and economic development throughout the local community, New York and beyond
DI3 accepts grant applications on a rolling basis and as funds are available. These funds are fiscal only, and the amounts will not roll over to the next fiscal year.
