Yulong Hu is a Ph.D. student in the Art History & Criticism program at Stony Brook University. Her research interests include contemporary Chinese video art, new media, machine and technology, experimental documentary, and emergent forms representing transnational cultures. Her master's thesis was on Xu Bing's experimental film Dragonfly Eyes (2017) and the phenomenon of surveillance videos live-streamed online. She currently focuses on the 80s-90s Chinese films and videos in a global sphere while exploring these aesthetic productions' impact on the standard Western-centric narrative of moving images. Yulong received a MA at Columbia University in Film and Media Studies and a BA (summa cum laude) at Stony Brook University in Art History & Criticism. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a gallery assistant at the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery and co-curated the “Artists as Innovators” exhibition in 2019.
