Stony Brook Linguists at LSA 2026

Stony Brook linguists, alumni and current graduate students, were well represented at the 2026 Linguistic Society of America (LSA 2026) Annual Meeting, held January 8–11 in New Orleans.

  • Scott Nelson (a Stony Brook alumnus and now Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign): Phonological Knowledge, Weighted Logic, and the Competence/Performance Distinction.
  • Elnaz Azimi: Reevaluation of Vowel Length and Lengthening in Modern Standard Persian.
  • William Oliver: On Designing an Asynchronous Online Introductory Linguistics Course.

All three talks were very well received and represented significant and exciting contributions to the field.
