Newly Admitted Students: Next Steps

On behalf of the Undergraduate Colleges, Welcome to Stony Brook University!

To get you started, make sure you complete the following once admitted:

  • Pay your tuition deposit on SOLAR.
  • Set Up Your NetID and NetID Password.
  • Address any Holds on your SOLAR Account.
  • Submit ALL of your required Health Documents:

-MMR
-Meningitis
-Health Insurance

Once complete, please review each of the next steps so you can get registered and ready for your first semester as a seawolf!

Your Undergraduate College


As an incoming first-year student, you will be supported through an Undergraduate College (UGC) which determines your academic advisors, college community, and typically your residential community. You will automatically be assigned to one of the Undergraduate Colleges based on your academic major (with the exception of International Students):

    • Special Populations - Majors Affiliated: International Students, Undeclared\General
    • Creativity, Technology, and Innovation - Majors Affiliated: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Geology, Earth and Space Sciences, Business, Economics, Math
    • Global Health, Wellness, and Community - Majors Affiliated: Biology, Health Science, Respiratory Sciences, Clinical Lab Sciences, SOMAS, AOI Nursing
    • Social Justice, Equity, and Ethics - Majors Affiliated: Arts, Music, Linguistics, English, Africana Studies, Languages, History, Political Science, Journalism, Communication, Multidisciplinary Studies, Women Studies, Creative Writing, Psychology, Social Work, Anthropology, Human Evolutionary Biology

Please note: If you are in any of the following programs (EOP, Athletics, Simons STEM Scholars, Honors College, University Scholars, or WISE) or in a major in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, you will be supported through your program’s advising unit.

 

 

 

 

 
 

New Student Registration

To register for your first semester of classes, first-year students will attend a required registration workshop taking place in July/August

In order to register for a registration workshop, students must complete the following:

Registration Workshops  

Your Advisors and Registration Student Assistants will be enrolling you in your required courses.  Once you complete all of the required tasks, you will be prompted to select  a Registration Workshop Date.

Workshops are virtual via Zoom and first-come, first-serve. Complete all of your placement exams and matriculated checklist items in your SBUStart Portal as soon as possible to receive priority registration in classes!

Please check your Stony Brook Email for Advising Information and Registration Workshop Information. The email will come from ucolleges@stonybrook.edu.

Registration for College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Honors, University Scholars, and WISE Students

Special Populations (Honors, University Scholars, WISE, and Simons STEM Scholars) will have their Registration during July. More information to be provided from your program.

New Seawolf Welcome Week

All new first year students at Stony Brook University will participate in a multi-part orientation. New Seawolf Orientation is required for all new first year students and consists of Seawolf Foundations online orientation modules, participation in the advising and registration process with your Undergraduate College, virtual group workshops including Seawolf Connections and commuter/resident panel,  and New Seawolf Welcome Week.
