Hamptons International Film Festival Sloan Fellows Join Stony Brook MFA in Film Students in Master Class Led by Academy Award® Winner Mercedes Ruehl
New York and Southampton, NY, May 20, 2015 - Stony Brook University announced today
that the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellows from the Hamptons International Film Festival
(HIFF) will join Stony Brook Southampton MFA in Film students in a Master Class in
Acting for Directors led by Academy Award® winner Mercedes Ruehl (The Fisher King, Lost in Yonkers).
The Master Class will be held from July 8-12, 2015. Students will study acting techniques, work with actors, and will act, direct and crew on short-filmed sequences, including their own. All sequences will be screened the final day.
Along with Mercedes Ruehl, workshops will be held by Stony Brook MFA in Theatre Associate Director Stephen Hamilton and Stony Brook MFA in Film Associate Director Magdalene Brandeis.
"We are excited to have Mercedes Ruehl lead our Master Class in Acting for Directors and also have Steve Hamilton join us. This is a great opportunity for our MFA in Film students to get first-hand knowledge and experience in understanding the amazing and intense dynamic between actors and directors," said Brandeis.
In addition to current MFA in Film program students, also joining the course will be HIFF'S 2015 Sloan Fellows, Kendell Klein (Jane) and Jared Goodman (European Zero).
"Our goal is to develop fearless new voices and provide them with the support to bring their stories to life. This mission is at the heart of the Sloan Foundation," said Anne Chaisson, Executive Director.

Sloan Foundation, as we mentor the gifted screenwriters, actors, and directors who are bridging the traditions of story-telling and scientific inquiry."
