Subject: Introducing TimelyCare, 24/7 Virtual Healthcare for Stony Brook Students

Dear Colleagues, 

We are very excited to share that Stony Brook University has launched a new 24/7 virtual health, counseling, and wellness service for all undergraduate and graduate students. This new service is called TimelyCare, and it provides access to around-the-clock virtual medical and mental health care, including scheduling appointments with licensed providers at times convenient for students, including evenings and weekends.

TimelyCare complements our existing health, wellness and prevention offerings from Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Center for Prevention and Outreach and Recreation and Wellness, and is included as part of the Health and Counseling broad based fee.

We have shared this important news with our students, but we want to be sure you are aware of it too, so you can advise them to take advantage of the services when they’re feeling under the weather, stressed, or overwhelmed. 

Please read the FAQs below to learn more: 

How can students access TimelyCare?
A. Students should go to timelycare.com/stonybrook  or download the TimelyCare app (iOS or Android) to register with their name and Stony Brook email address. Students can then have visits from any web-enabled device – smartphone, laptop, or desktop. TimelyCare is available from anywhere in the United States.

Who can use TimelyCare?
A. Any currently enrolled Stony Brook University student, including students taking online classes.

Do students need to be on campus to use TimelyCare?
A. No, students can use TimelyCare from anywhere in the United States. As long as they’re a currently enrolled student, including if they are taking online classes, they will have access to TimelyCare, even when classes are not in session.  

What services are available?
A. There are five services available:

  • Medical: 24/7 on-demand access to a medical provider that can treat a wide range of common illnesses like cold and flu, sinus infection, allergies and more.
  • Scheduled Medical: scheduled appointments to speak to a medical provider.
  • TalkNow: 24/7 on-demand access to a mental health professional to talk about anything that is concerning the student. 
  • Scheduled Counseling: scheduled appointments to speak to a licensed counselor (up to 12 visits per year).
  • Health Coaching: access to a nutritional specialist to help students adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors related to sleep issues, weight management and real-time wellness classes and pre-recorded videos. 

How much does a visit cost?
A.Nothing! TimelyCare services are included as part of the Health and Counseling broad based fee for all currently enrolled Stony Brook students.

Who should I contact if I have concerns about a student?
A. We have many resources available to best help students in need. Please visit the Red Book, where you can find important and helpful information to guide you to the right resource. You can find the Red Book at stonybrook.edu/redbook. We suggest you bookmark this page, so you can more easily access it whenever you need to consult it. 

In addition, if you’re concerned about your student or they are experiencing an urgent mental health need after hours, you can call the CAPS Crisis Line at 631-632-6720. If a student may be in immediate danger, contact University Police at (631) 632-3333.
