Subject: Action Required - What You Must Do Before the Start of the Fall Semester

Dear Seawolves,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and are looking forward to the start of the Fall 2022 semester. In preparation for the start of classes on Monday, August 22, please carefully read the following information:

Vaccine Requirements:

Per New York State policy, all students enrolled in at least one in-person class, visiting or working on campus, or living on campus are required to complete an initial COVID vaccination series as well as submit proof of MMR vaccination and complete a Meningitis Response Form.

For more details and information on how to upload your documentation to the Wolfie Health Portal, visit stonybrook.edu/immunizations.

Further, we strongly recommend that you obtain a COVID booster, once you become eligible, and upload it to the Wolfie Health Portal. You’re eligible when:

  • It’s been at least 5 months after completing your primary series (two doses) of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines
  • It’s been at least 2 months after your Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine

If you were vaccinated outside of the United States, other COVID-19 vaccine and booster recommendations apply to you. Visit the CDC website for more information.

To check when you’re eligible to receive the booster, use this Booster Eligibility Calculator: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/studentaffairs/shs/booster_calculator.php

After reviewing this information, if you have any additional questions regarding vaccine requirements, please email vaccinations@stonybrook.edu and include your name and Stony Brook ID.

COVID Surveillance Testing During the Fall Semester:

Unvaccinated Students

Unvaccinated students with approved exemptions are required to participate in PCR surveillance testing once a week during the fall semester. More details will be shared with you in August on how to participate in this required testing. You will use your health insurance when testing on campus. Please note that you may be responsible for any additional costs associated with this testing that are not covered by your insurance.

Vaccinated Students

Vaccinated students are not required to participate in surveillance testing. This is subject to change based upon COVID infection rates.

For more information about testing, please visit the Student Health Services website: stonybrook.edu/shs

If You Don’t Feel Well and/or Test Positive for COVID During the Semester:

If you are not feeling well and would like to test for COVID or any other virus, and be examined by a health practitioner, contact Student Health Services at (631) 632-6740 for an appointment.

If at any time during the semester you test positive for COVID, call the COVID Response Team at (631) 632-6176 (on campus 2-6176) and leave a message with your name, SBU ID, a phone number to return your call, the date of your positive test result, and symptoms you are experiencing. The COVID Response Team will return your message within 24 hours of receipt.

If you test positive for COVID, with or without symptoms, you will need to isolate for a minimum of 5 days and cannot attend in-person classes or activities. You can continue to participate in online classes as long as you feel well enough to do so.

You will need to isolate yourself in your own room at home or apartment following these guidelines:

  • Stay in your room for your isolation period. If you have a roommate or are living with family members or friends, inform them of your status and plans for isolation. Include them when you report your close contacts to the COVID Response Team.
  • Everyone should wear a mask at all times when in the same room with you. Once you have finished isolation after 5 days, continue to wear a mask at all times for 5 additional days.
  • Limit time in shared bathrooms and wash your hands after use.
  • Do not spend time in common areas such as the kitchen and living room.
  • Do not share personal household items like cups, towels, and utensils.

For more information about quarantine and isolation, please visit https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/studentaffairs/shs/COVID-19/Student_Contact_Tracer_Line.php

Thank you for your continued commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our campus community. We will keep you informed of additional updates throughout the summer.

We look forward to seeing you this August!

Sincerely,
