Subject: Tomorrow is Election Day!

Dear Seawolves,

Tomorrow, November 5, is Election Day! Voting is your chance to influence the future and stand up for the issues that matter most to you and your community. Here at Stony Brook, we want to make sure you are able to participate in the democratic process successfully. Below, you will find important information and resources regarding the election:

WHERE TO VOTE:

Polling locations in New York will be open tomorrow from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. You can check your voter registration status and find your polling location on the Voter Lookup website.

If you are registered to vote with an on-campus address and plan to vote in-person on Election Day, you can vote at our on-campus presidential election polling location in the Walter J. Hawrys Campus Recreation Center. For a map of Stony Brook’s campus, click here

For those registered with off-campus addresses, you will need to vote at your designated polling location. If you require transportation support, the following resources are available on Election Day ONLY

  • Lyft is offering discounted rides on Election Day at a 50% discount (up to $10) for rides to the polls. Preload the code, VOTE24, on or before November 5. The code is valid from 5 AM to 10 PM in every time zone and can be used on a rideshare, bikeshare, or scooter ride.

  • Uber is also offering discounted rides on Election Day at a 50% discount (up to $10) for rides to the polls. When you open your Uber app on Election Day, you’ll see a dedicated ‘Go Vote!’ tile on the home screen

  • Stony Brook Southampton shuttles will be available thanks to the SBSH Student Life staff. Shuttles will run hourly on Election Day to the closest polling site to that campus; rides can be reserved via this request form

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ABSENTEE BALLOTS:

For New York State residents who requested an absentee ballot to vote by mail, your ballot must be postmarked to your local Board of Elections no later than Tuesday, November 5. Each state has its own requirements and deadlines for voting absentee; to check the deadlines in your state, visit vote.org.  If you need help finding the mailing address for your local Board of Elections office, please contact us for assistance.

JOIN THE ELECTION DAY CELEBRATIONS! Join us in the Union on Election Day for an all day celebration! The building will serve as Election Day Headquarters, including a rotating schedule of events and takeovers hosted by campus partners. Additionally, the Center for Civic Justice Team will be available to assist with any last-minute voting questions and support.

Please reach out to our office anytime by emailing civicjustice@stonybrook.edu, or stop by our office located in the Stony Brook Union, Suite L-20.
