Subject: Important Community Update: Values, Expectations, and Resources

Dear Seawolves,

Following President Goldsmith’s message to the campus on March 23, we want to reaffirm our shared commitment to Stony Brook’s core values of respect, care, and inclusion.

Regrettably, over the course of the academic year, there have been several incidents of vandalism involving antisemitic and racist imagery and graffiti. These actions are deeply concerning and run counter to the values that define our community, as well as our responsibility to foster a safe and welcoming environment where all can live, learn, and work.

Stony Brook University maintains a zero-tolerance policy for hate, vandalism, and discriminatory harassment of any kind. The Code of Student Responsibility clearly prohibits conduct that disrespects individuals and property. Every reported incident is actively investigated and addressed through the appropriate disciplinary process, which may include referral to law enforcement.

We remain committed to ensuring our university community is a place where everyone is treated with respect, care, and dignity. If you see or hear of any behavior that threatens the safety or security of others, please report it immediately to the University Police Department at 631-632-3333.

We recognize that encountering or learning about acts of hate and discrimination can be upsetting and unsettling and there are numerous campus resources to provide support, including:

Together, we can help ensure that Stony Brook remains a community where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued.
