Subject: It's Spring Break Time!
Dear Seawolves,
As we approach the mid-semester point, we hope you have been making lots of strong
connections here at Stony Brook and are accessing the many resources available to support your success. We also hope you are looking forward to some time
to relax and recharge! As noted on the academic calendar, Spring Break is scheduled from Monday, March 13 to Friday, March 17, so classes will not be in session. This is a good time to destress, travel, have
fun, and spend time with friends and family. If you are traveling by car, please get
a good night’s sleep before getting behind the wheel.
If you currently reside on campus, you are welcome to remain on campus during any
or all of the break. Campus offices will continue to operate during regular business
hours. You can also access the Recreation Center, Union, SAC, Library, and other campus
buildings. Campus dining will also be available in the Student Activities Center Food
Court as noted in this schedule.
Daylight Saving Time
Daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 12. Before you go to bed on Saturday, March 11, move your clocks forward 1 hour. We’ll
lose an hour of sleep, but we’ll gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening.
A Small Thing We Can Do to Stay Healthy
While we have heard so much about the importance of washing our hands frequently over
the past 3 years, this best personal hygiene practice is a vital preventative measure
for many viral and bacterial illnesses. Currently, we are still seeing flu and COVID
in our greater community, and we are hearing about local outbreaks of norovirus (a
highly contagious virus causing stomach and intestinal problems). Proper handwashing
is a key way to stop the spread and protect yourself and others. And while hand sanitizer is a
good second choice for some viruses and bacterias, hand washing is still superior
especially in the case of norovirus. For more information and to check that your handwashing
practice is the best it can be, visit this CDC webpage, which offers great advice on keeping your hands clean.
TimelyCare Is Here for You: Anywhere, Anytime!
Hundreds of your fellow Seawolves have already used this telehealth and telecounseling
platform since its launch in the fall and given it rave reviews. You can access TimelyCare’s
free 24/7 virtual medical, mental health care, and health coaching services from anywhere in
the US. If you’re away for Spring Break and need to connect with a counselor or medical
provider, just go to stonybrook.edu/stonybrook or download the TimelyCare app (iOS or Android) to use the service.
Free Meet-Up Dinner and a Show at Staller Center on Saturday, March 18
If you’ll be on campus or local to Stony Brook during Spring Break, join me on Saturday, March 18 at 8pm for a free dinner and a free show at Staller Center! This is a meet-up event, so
come and meet some new Seawolves and enjoy the performance of artist Storm Large. This invitation is open to the first 30 students who sign up using this Google form.
