Rates and Fees 2026-2027

Housing rates are divided into several categories for first-year, continuing, graduate, and Southampton residents. Rooms can be configured as a single (one bedroom per person), a double (one bedroom shared between two persons), or a three-person room (one bedroom shared between three persons). These rooms may feature various amenities, including air conditioning (A/C) and/or cooking facilities.

A double room with no amenities has the same cost, regardless of corridor or suite style. The number of bedrooms in a suite or an apartment do not impact the rate. Additional amenities, such as air conditioning and cooking facilities within the unit, increase the rates. For monthly rate types, air conditioning costs are divided amongst all months, even though units are not operable during the cold season. To learn more about our residence halls and the amenities available in each building, please visit our Housing page.

You can view your room assignment's rate by looking at the assignment confirmation page in the Housing Portal.

All housing agreements and financial liability are for a full academic year, but billing periods for undergraduate students are by semester, and graduate students are billed monthly.

Fall 2026 Undergraduate Agreement rates include: August 22, 2026 - January 4, 2027

Spring 2027 Undergraduate Agreement rates include: January 4, 2027 - May 19, 2027

Graduate Agreements are monthly rates with an agreement ending May 30, 2027

Meal Plan Information: All students residing in residential spaces that do not provide in-room cooking facilities are required to enroll in a meal plan. Spaces that are exempt from this requirement because they contain in-room kitchens are Apartments, Hand Hall, and all 3-Bedroom suites in Gershwin Hall. All first-year and new transfer students are required to have a meal plan for their first two semesters. For more information on meal plans and meal plan rates, please visit our campus partners' website

5 Things to Know about the Housing Agreement:

  1. You are agreeing to live in on-campus housing for the full academic year and pay the associated costs (August - May for Undergraduate and 10-Month Graduate Agreement Holders, June - May for 12-Month Graduate Agreement Holders).
  2. All residential units include shared spaces where residents may have differing habits, preferences, and lifestyles. Successful community living depends on each resident's willingness to communicate effectively, exercise consideration, and actively engage in maintaining a positive and inclusive environment.
  3. By agreeing to the housing license, students are also agreeing to the Stony Brook University Code of Student Responsibility and the Campus Residences Terms of Occupancy
  4. Undergraduates must enroll in at least 3 credits three weeks prior to the start of the fall semester, or their housing will be cancelled. Newly admitted students are exempt from cancellation if they have completed the required steps, such as immunization records, writing exams, and the Advising Planning Form.
  5. All first-year and transfer residents are required to have a meal plan for their first two semesters, regardless of their assigned building. Thereafter, a meal plan is only required for residents in designated meal plan halls, while those in suites or apartments with cooking facilities in unit may choose whether to purchase one.
