Counseling and Health Broad Based Fee

This fee supports the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO) 's operations, offerings, and staffing.

CPO offers a robust bystander training program. Trainings include Red Watch Band with Narcan, Green Dot, QPR, and CPR. Students that complete all four bystander trainings a semester before their graduation (i.e., May 2028 graduates must finish by the end of the Fall 2027 semester) will be presented with the Upstander Award, including a certificate and graduation cord. Over 1,800 students attend at least one bystander training a year.

CPO distributes free health products for all students. Products include safer sex kits (various condoms, dental dams, and lube), menstrual hygiene kits (pads and tampons), first aid kits (bandaids, gauze, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic wipes, etc.), cold and flu kits (tissues, tea, honey, cough drops), and drug testing kits (fentanyl and xylazine testing strips). CPO also distributes different seasonal kits, including sun safety kits!

CPO’s Healing Arts program provides opportunities for students to develop insight into the role of self-care in maintaining their health and wellness, and to learn new coping skills to help them manage the challenges they may face. Healing Arts utilizes creative expression and activities to encourage students to connect with themselves and their peers in constructive, empowering ways. CPO professionals and peer educators lead psychoeducational discussions on topics related to managing personal and interpersonal stress and engage participants on ways to expand and improve their repertoire of coping skills. Concepts covered in past Healing Arts include self-compassion, positive self-talk, reflection and journaling, visualization and goal-setting, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection.
