Students should always identify themselves as a Stony Brook Southampton student to get expedited services.
Directions to the hospital from Stony Brook Southampton campus is to turn left (east) onto Old Montauk Hwy and keep going for 4 miles. The road changes names a few times from Hill St to Jobs Lane to Meeting House Lane. Once there go to the Emergency Department. There is a Fast Track service for the non-life threatening health issues (i.e. colds, sore throats, coughs).
To access the hospital by ambulance, call University Police at 333 or (631) 632-3333 and identify yourself as a Stony Brook Southampton student needing assistance. The University Police at the Southampton Campus are trained First Responders and will assist you until the ambulance arrives (the Southampton Village Ambulance Service can take some time in responding as it is a Volunteer service). Students can always use their own vehicle or have someone drive them if it is not an emergency situation.
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has The Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute which is on the hospital website and offers yoga, zumba, massage therapy, acupuncture, meditation, smoking cessation and other courses which can be offered at the hospital employee price if the student identifies themself as a Stony Brook Southampton student.
If students have a health question or concern they can always call West Campus’ Student Health Services at (631) 632-6740. If calling after hours, you will be connected to the Fonemed Service and can speak with a medical professional.
The Meeting House Cafe at Southampton Hospital
Southampton Hospital’s cafeteria (updated in 2020) is located on the basement level, directly across from the elevators on the south side of the building. The cafeteria is open to all Hospital personnel and visitors, as well as Stony Brook Southampton students, faculty and staff, and is staffed 7 days a week, from 6:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., with a brief closing 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and again at 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cafe closes at 6:00 p.m. on Holidays and Weekends. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS offers free and confidential services to enrolled students.
Students in distress can call CAPS anytime, day or night, and speak with a professional counselor. Dial (631) 632-6720 between 9 am - 5 pm and speak with a triage counselor. TimelyCare 24/7 Virtual Healthcare & Health Coaching for Seawolves
TimelyCare is a new telehealth platform that provides 24/7 virtual access to medical and mental health services and health coaching, right from your mobile device or computer. Best of all, this service is for all Stony Brook undergraduate or graduate students, taking online or in-person classes, and is included as part of the Health and Counseling broad based fee.
Whether you're anxious or overwhelmed, or just need to talk to someone, you will be able to talk to a licensed provider, either by a voice or video call.
TimelyCare offers the following services:
- Medical: 24/7, on-demand access to a medical provider that can treat a wide range of common illnesses such as a sore throat, earache, cold and flu symptoms, sinus infection, allergies and more.
- Scheduled Medical: scheduled appointments to speak to a medical provider of your choice at a time convenient for your schedule.
- TalkNow: 24/7, on-demand access to a mental health professional to talk about anything on your mind.
- Scheduled Counseling: scheduled mental health counseling appointments to speak to a licensed counselor of your choice, at a time convenient for you (up to 12 visits per year).
- Health Coaching: access to a nutritional specialist to help you adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors related to sleep issues, weight management and more, as well as real-time wellness classes and pre-recorded videos.
