Nancy Black is the Undergraduate Advisor for SoMAS and Sustainability Studies majors and minors. Nancy received degrees from the University of Miami in Marine
Science/Biology (BS) and Marine Biology and Fisheries (MS), doing her thesis research
on coral bleaching while also doing projects related to the role of jellyfish larvae
in causing seabather’s eruption. After jobs at Seacamp, Florida International University,
University of South Carolina, and EnviroScience in Ohio, she arrived on Long Island
in 2006 and taught Marine Biology as an Adjunct Instructor at Suffolk Community College
for 16 semesters. Nancy came to Stony Brook University in 2007, first as an Instructional
Support Associate in the Undergraduate Biology Program, and then as Assistant Director
there in 2015. She joined SoMAS in 2019.
