APPLICATION DEADLINE:

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2026 (11:59 PM EST)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must currently be in their junior year (11th grade) of high school at the time of applying; must be US citizens and/or permanent residents; and must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the program. (no exceptions to these rules)

Nomination Form

DEADLINE: JANUARY 30, 2026 (11:59 PM EST)

Please note that there is a limit of two (2) nominees per school. More than 2 nominees from a particular school may result in the disqualification of all applicants.

All school officials should refer to the High School Nomination Contact Listto verify and confirm the individual at their school coordinating the nominee selection process. We strongly suggest and recommend that only one official at each school (for ex., one science teacher, research coordinator, etc.) be responsible for nominating students to ensure there are no more than 2 nominees per school.

Should the information on the database need to be modified, please have the newly designated HIGH SCHOOL OFFICIAL contact us (simonssrp@stonybrook.edu) with their information (full name, position, contact information & school name/address) so we may update our directory.

Schools not represented on this list have likely not nominated students for the Simons SRP in previous years. If an individual school is not listed on our database and would like to nominate a student, the school official coordinating the nomination process should complete the nomination form as instructed. We can then add the school/representative to our directory as the main contact for future years.
LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION - letter writers will receive a prompt/email after the student has submitted an application

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 13, 2026 (11:59 PM EST)

Two (2) letters of recommendation are required from high school (math/science or STEM area preferred) teachers

*Once an application has been submitted, an email will be automatically generated to the individuals who are submitting a letter of recommendation on behalf of an applicant. Teachers (and/or previous science mentors) are requested to submit/upload a letter of recommendation by FEBRUARY 13, 2026.

*Please CONFIRM your nomination status before completing or submitting an application for the program. Nominated students will also be sent an invitation to apply (please allow up to 48 hours from time of nomination) but sometimes these emails are blocked/filtered if a school email is submitted. Be sure to use an email on the application that you can check/receive mail.

Applicants will be asked and required to select their top three (3) choices of preferred mentor/areas of research interest on the online aplication. To view the listing of faculty research mentors available for summer '25 , please visit the link below:

Upon submitting the online application form/transcript, applicants will receive an automated confirmation email acknowledging receipt of their application submission.

Note to students on letters of recommendation: It is the responsibility of the applicant to follow up with their teachers directly to ensure that their letters are submitted by the application deadline.
(Optional) 3rd letter: Students who have previously been involved in research at a university/research institution (not required for admission) for > 4 weeks are encouraged to request an additional letter of recommendation from their previous research supervisor/mentor.

Independently submitted, late or incomplete applications will be disqualified.

*Please note that admissions into the Simons program is highly selective/competitive and we receive far more applications from qualified students than we can accommodate in the program.
