Thank you for your commitment to accessibility
February 10, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for joining us on Friday’s Accessibility Town Hall. We were delighted to see nearly 200 of you in person and on Zoom, and appreciate the thoughtful questions and feedback you gave us.
As we work as a university to support each other and update our digital materials to comply with the changed accessibility regulations, we will continue to seek your input and address your questions.

Steps you can take now to update your course materials:
Avoid using PDFs if you can, and remediate the ones you need
Most PDFs cannot be read by machines without remediation. Instead, use Microsoft Office tools or initiate files in Brightspace.
If you need help making PDFs accessible, CELT offers PDF remediation assistance on a first-come, first-served basis.
Have specific questions?
Contact CELT to schedule an individual consultation. We also offer training opportunities and can come to meet with groups of faculty or departments.
Purchasing software?
The Office of Equity and Access can conduct an electronic information technology (EIT) review to determine if it meets accessibility requirements, and to cover cyber security risks. If you have questions about the EIT process, email us.
Two more things you can do:
- Transcribe your videos. Tools like Echo and Zoom can help you get started. You should review the transcripts for accuracy.
- Use alt text for images. If you have a complex diagram, opt for a longer description.
The teams at the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and the entire Provost's Office, as well as the Office of Equity and Access are here to support you. Over the coming days and weeks, we will continue to add resources, to help our campus community understand and comply with the federal regulations.
Thank you for your commitment to ensuring an excellent educational experience for all our students.
