Celebrate CommUniversity Day With Us On September 28
September 19, 2024
Dear Stony Brook Community,
On Saturday, September 28, Stony Brook University will host its annual CommUniversity Day — an opportunity for our campus to join with our surrounding community and neighbors to talk, listen, collaborate, discover, and celebrate just how lucky we are to be here, on Long Island, at one of the best universities in the world. This event is conveniently joined with Family Weekend and a home football game against Morgan State, presenting a wonderful opportunity to showcase Stony Brook’s warm, welcoming, engaged environment for students, employees, families, friends and community members.
Hands-on activities and festivities that show the many facets of our campus community will extend throughout the Academic Mall, including different health screenings, thought-provoking mini-talks, games, entertainment, and much more. I encourage you to bring nonperishable items and food cans to support Island Harvest’s food drive, aimed to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island.
Discover the beauty and complexity of the Staller Center’s state-of-the-art musical instruments with the ever-popular “instrument petting zoo”—you might even discover your next passion. And bring little ones (or yourselves) to register and participate in this year’s inaugural LEGO competition—I personally can’t wait to see the impressive creations that are bound to come out of this new contest. And of course, as one of the pioneering public universities in climate change research, we’ll have tables and information on how you can join us in creating a more sustainable world.
As always, CommUniversity Day is free and open to the public. I hope you can attend, and I encourage you to invite your colleagues, family and friends to come make Stony Brook University feel like home—for everyone. Thank you for all you do for Stony Brook.
Sincerely,
Richard L. McCormick
Interim President
