While finding affordable housing on Long Island can be challenging, Stony Brook University is here to help you navigate the process and find the best option for your needs. Rental opportunities range from apartments and townhouses to shared homes and full-house rentals in the surrounding area. Although long-term on-campus housing isn't available for postdocs, many find great options nearby with a bit of planning and support.

Public transportation is available via local buses, on-campus shuttles, and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), but having a car can offer more flexibility for getting around.
