What is MotionGen?

MotionGen was first created as a mobile app for planar four-bar linkage mechanism simulation and position synthesis. Thereafter, it was extended to do N-bar mechanism simulation and an AI-driven method for path synthesis. This latter version was released only for the browser and is now available at http://www.motiongen.io.

We recommend users to use web version for full functions and features, while the app version is good to play with on the go.

Web-based App
http://www.motiongen.io:

  • Design and animate planar N-bar mechanisms for making your robots move, such as walking robots, drawing bots, grabbers, etc.
  • Visualize in 2D and 3D using different view options.
  • Design and draw your own simple shapes, which you can attach to mechanisms. Add your own context and scenes.
  • Prototype your completed robot using SnappyXO hardware kits.
  • Export custom part geometries for 3D printing and laser-cutting.

Mobile App (limited functions):
In App stores

  • A multi-touch app for Android and iOS platforms
  • Simulates planar four-bar linkages by assembling dyadal constraints
  • Computes planar four-bar linkage types and dimensions for motion generation problem
