Spaces:

Regenerative Medicine

The space will bring together experts in cell biology, materials sciences, computational biology, and applied math through experimental areas and common office/meeting areas. Although the experimental spaces will be divided in two parts: the wet lab (cell biology, biomaterials) and the dry lab (computational biology), the two must be well connected, preferably without a hallway on the same floor. We envision that the two spaces will be visible from one another, possibly through the transparent common meeting spaces.

Laboratory space should have central vacuum line, central compressed air line, HVAC/exhaust system that can handle fume hoods & biosafety cabinets, and special procedure rooms.

• Wet lab (cell biology) area: 4000 sqft (includes sterile cell culture space)
• Wet lab (BME, biomaterials) area: 4000 sqft
• Surgery/special procedure room: 400 sqft
• Imaging room: 200 sqft 

Neuroengineering

The space will bring together Neuroscientists and Engineers, through experimental areas and common office/meeting areas. Although the experimental spaces will be divided in two parts: the wet lab (neuroscience) and the dry lab (electrical engineering), the two must be well connected, preferably without a hallway on the same floor. We envision that the two spaces will be visible from one another, possibly through the transparent common meeting spaces. Animals will be transported between both sides and the animal facility. The Neuroscience space should have several individual rooms to isolate animals during behavioral experiments.

• Engineering area: General lab space: 1000 sqft
• Neuroscience area: Recording room #1: 200 sqft
• Recording room #2: 200 sqft
• Surgery room: 200 sqft
• Animal training room: 200 sqft
• Imaging room: 200 sqft
• Open wet lab bench area: 600 sqft
• Common area: Lounge area for meetings: 1500 sqft
• Open office space for 10 individuals: ~600 sqft

Vivarium

The animal facility will be used to host rodents (rats and mice). Planned experiments require long term housing (a few months).

The satellite animal facility will have:        

• a mouse room (4 vent racks + fume hood) (800 sqft)
• a rat room (2 vent rack + fume hood) (800 sqft)
• a procedure room (furnishing + fume hood) (800 sqft)
• cleaning room (with washer and autoclave) (700 sqft) 
• The total will be ~3000 sqft (to which we must add 20% for gross space: hallways etc).
