What is the deadline to submit a new score in order to be placed in UP 2?

A. You may submit a new official score 30 days prior to the start of the program, however, there may not be space in appropriate credit courses for you to enroll in.

While taking UP1, can I submit a new standardized score to skip taking UP2 and gain direct admission to SBU?

A.  No. Once you are admitted to the UP program, you must complete the entire sequence.

Am I allowed to drop the credit course(s) and take only the IEC courses?

A. Your IEC advisor will assist you in changing course(s) if you are having difficulty with the material. Dropping credit courses completely will only be allowed if it is officially determined that your English proficiency prevents you from passing the course(s). In that case, you may also be moved to a lower level IEC course.

Do I have to take a math placement exam?

Only if you want to take a math course or a course that has a math prerequisite. New students have to take a math placement exam in order to be enrolled in the appropriate math courses based on their level of ability.

How do I enroll in credit courses?

A.  You will choose courses from the list  available in the application system. You will list a first and a second choice and you will be enrolled by the IEC advisor. If none of your choices are available, you will be enrolled in a course that has space. You may be able to switch courses during the add/drop period during the first two weeks of the semester, depending on course capacity.
