IDPAS Values
Scientific creativity and excellence thrive when diverse viewpoints are represented, and a broad range of perspectives and backgrounds are vital to anthropology’s project of enhancing our understanding of humans through time and across space. The IDPAS values a diversity of voices, including those who have historically been underrepresented in the academy. To sustain an inclusive learning environment, the IDPAS aims to make educational opportunities equitable and strives to create a culture that celebrates individuals from all backgrounds. We value an academic culture that is both respectful and informed of the differences in socioeconomic status, age, race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, ability, health, and neurodiversity that have shaped the lives and perspectives of our students and colleagues. We also value active and equal partnerships with international colleagues whose expertise is critical to advancing not only our research goals, but science as a whole. We recognize that dedication to these values may unveil differences in opinion that can often be uncomfortable. Rather than ignoring or merely tolerating such differences, we value a culture of open dialogue, curiosity, and willingness to learn. We believe that such a culture enhances both our research and our engagement with the communities in which we work, live, and interact.
