Lisa is currently dissertating, working in 20th-21st century American ethnic literature. She is arguing that the concept of modernity/coloniality informs the foundation of the texts she centers as they evocatively and provocatively call into question notions of Hegelian progress by showcasing the wreckage of history in its unreparative horrors. These works introduce a poly-perspectivity to history. One compelling way they do this is by utilizing fantastical figures to reckon with the past and present, other wordly images that carry a decolonial vision. Lisa's article, "Gender and [Re-]Casting in Steve McQueen's Hunger :Selectively Culling Bobby Sands's Writings from Prison" was published in Film & History: An Interdisciplinary Journal. Lisa's latest publication is“From Plátano Player to Questioning Chronicler—Historiography in Junot Díaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," published in Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction.
