MS Project Program Path
Welcome to the MS Project Program! Here are the major milestones for you to pass on your way through the program. All forms should be submitted to Department/Grad Staff Assistant Malina Salman, unless otherwise noted. For full details, refer to the Graduate Catalog.
MS Program Plan
Project Advisor: Select an academic advisor and arrange the initial meeting.
Project Scope: Discuss your project scope with your advisor to determine the appropriate number of CIV 596 (MS Project) credits to take.
Project Topic: Select an MS project topic in consultation with your advisor.
Submit Plan: Draft the MS Program Plan with your advisor's guidance and submit it by the second week of your first semester.
Revise Plan: Contact the department/grad staff assistant to submit a revised Plan and get approval for any course changes or a switch to the Thesis track.
Project Research
In addition to your planned coursework, you will complete an MS project, which will be mentored by your advisor.
Project Credits: If you choose zero credits for CIV 596, register for it during your final semester. For more than three credits, it is recommended that you spread them over two semesters. Enroll in CIV 596 with the advisor who is mentoring your project.
Project Research: For zero-credit CIV 596, your advisor will assign a task that you must complete by a specific deadline during the semester you're registered. If you are taking three or more credits, you are expected to schedule regular meetings with your advisor to ensure you are making satisfactory progress on your MS project.
Project Report: Write your MS project report in accordance with the requirements specified by your advisor.

Project Presentation
If you take three or more credits of MS Project, you are required to give a presentation on your work.
Step 1: Consult with your advisor to identify and invite a project report reader. The reader and your advisor will constitute the examining committee for your MS project.
Step 2: Your project presentation is typically scheduled for the Reading Day of your graduating semester. Prepare for it by following the detailed instructions provided by the Department.
Step 3: Submit your project report to the examining committee one week before your presentation. The committee will evaluate your work based on this report.
Step 4: Deliver a presentation on your MS project.
Step 5: Your advisor will assign the grade for CIV 596.
Post-Examination
Project Record: Your advisor will submit the Record of MS Project form to the department/grad staff
assistant.
Graduation: The department/grad staff assistant will clear you for graduation once all grades are posted, your course history aligns with your Program Plan, and your advisor has submitted the completed Record of MS Project form.
